Now TMS Treatment Offers Hope
This innovative therapy uses magnetic stimulation to activate and revitalize areas of the brain that have been affected by depression, effectively "turning them on" again.
By awakening these regions, TMS can help patients experience relief from their symptoms and improve their overall well-being. This groundbreaking approach to treating depression is providing new hope for those who have not found relief with traditional treatments such as medication or therapy.

Express TMS: TMS therapy in just 3 minutes
We are pleased to now offer Theta Burst Stimulation (TBS). This new 3 minute 'Express TMS' protocol has been shown to have equal or better efficacy than traditional TMS protocols lasting 30+ minutes. This new treatment protocol minimizes time expenditure and discomfort to help speed you along the path to recovery.

Our state-of-the-art MagVenture TMS Machine is the only device to offer FDA-cleared 3 minute TMS sessions now available at Pacific Mind Health. This revolutionary TBS (theta-burst) protocol provides a faster more comfortable TMS treatment that’s just as safe and effective for the treatment of major depressive disorder as standard TMS treatment. Theta-burst therapy is an exciting new option that offers hope for those who have not found relief with traditional medication-based treatments.
The National Institutes of Health estimates depression medications work for only 60 percent to 70 percent of people who take them. Additionally, the World Health Organization reports that the number of people living with depression has increased nearly 20 percent since 2005. In a 2012 study, TMS was found to significantly improve depression in 58 percent of patients and provide complete remission of symptoms in 37 percent of patients. With our new technology and experienced team of professionals, we are committed to helping patients find relief from depression and anxiety.

What is TMS therapy?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the brain that control mood. In patients with depression, these cells may be underactive, leading to symptoms such as low mood, feelings of worthlessness, and difficulty concentrating. By delivering repeated pulses of magnetic stimulation to this area of the brain, TMS has been shown to produce an antidepressant effect in people suffering from depression.
TMS is sometimes referred to as rTMS, or repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, because multiple magnetic pulses are delivered to the brain during a treatment session. This technique is considered safe and has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression and anxiety.

How does TMS work?
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses a magnetic coil to produce a rapidly changing magnetic field that passes through the scalp and skull to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. This stimulation can increase or decrease the activity of the targeted brain region depending on the frequency used.
The magnetic coil is placed on the patient's scalp, and it delivers a series of magnetic pulses to the brain. The pulses cause small electrical currents that stimulate the nerve cells in the targeted brain area.
TMS is thought to work by changing the activity of certain areas of the brain that are involved in mood regulation, such as the prefrontal cortex. This can help to alleviate symptoms of depression and other mood disorders. TMS is a non-invasive procedure that does not require anesthesia, and patients are typically able to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment.

Am I a candidate for TMS?Are you wondering if TMS therapy is right for you? TMS is typically recommended for adult patients who have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders and have not experienced satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medications during the current episode.
Your doctor will use a range of measures, including medication dosing records and depression scores, to determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate for MagVenture TMS Therapy. If you're interested in TMS therapy or have any questions, we encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider to determine if this treatment is right for you. How long does TMS take?Pacific Mind Health utilizes a special TMS machine that can do standard TMS treatments, lasting 19-37 minutes, or Express TMS® treatments, which last 3 minutes. One treatment is given per day, 5 times per week, over a period of 4-6 weeks.
The length of a TMS treatment session depends on the specific protocol used by your doctor. At Pacific Mind Health, we offer both standard TMS treatments, which typically last 19-37 minutes, and Express TMS® theta-burst treatments, which last just 3 minutes. In general, one treatment is given per day, 5 times per week, over a period of 4-6 weeks. However, the exact length of the treatment course may vary depending on your individual response to treatment. Pacific Mind Health also offers the brand new Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy (SAINT), a one to two week accelerated TMS treatment protocol that is showing similar results as traditional 6 week protocols. Your doctor will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan that takes into account your specific symptoms and treatment goals. They will also monitor your progress throughout the treatment course and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that you are getting the most benefit from TMS therapy. |
What does TMS feels like?
TMS is a non-painful and non-invasive treatment. During a TMS session, the patient sits in a comfortable chair while a small, curved coil is placed on their scalp. When the magnetic pulses are delivered, you may hear a clicking sound and feel a tapping sensation on your scalp. The sensation can be compared to a light tapping on the head, and most patients find the treatment to be well-tolerated. You may be able to listen to music, meditate, watch TV, or simply relax during the session. After the treatment, you can immediately resume your normal activities without any downtime."
Are there any side effects of TMS therapy?TMS therapy does not typically cause the side effects commonly associated with antidepressants, such as weight gain, stomach issues, dry mouth, and sexual dysfunction. Some patients may experience mild side effects such as headaches or fatigue, but these are typically short-lived and subside on their own shortly after the session.
It is important to note that TMS therapy is a medical procedure, and any side effects experienced during or after the treatment should be reported to your doctor |
Is TMS covered by my insurance?
TMS is covered by most insurance providers, although specific policies and coverage may vary. Some factors that can impact claim approvals include pre-authorization, treating physician requirements, the number of previous medication failures, and other criteria set by the insurance provider. It is recommended that you refer to your insurance provider’s policy guides to determine your specific coverage for TMS therapy.
